Wouldn't it be great to tour the USA on horseback? You could be riding through the Midwestern Prairies or Colorado's Rocky Mountains...
While this may have to remain a mere dream for most, there is a very doable alternative: planning a tour of the country based around visiting some of its best stables in states from California to Maine. These could include:
Chattahoochee Hills
Bouckaert Farm in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia is a modern complex with dedicated competition, turf dressage, and cross country areas set in a beautiful area with views across Browns lake and Chattahoochee River. It's a mere 15 miles away from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
During the summer months, the complex hosts events most weekends. In 2012 one of the major competitions to take place there is the Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships.
Kentucky Horse Park
Kentucky is unofficially referred to as the "horse capital of the world" and so is an excellent destination for equestrians from across the globe.

Visitors should venture to Kentucky Horse Park where kids and adults alike will be entertained at the International Museum of the Horse, on horse farm tours, and trail or pony rides.
The park hosts regular events such as the 2012 North American Juniors and Young Riders' Championships. You can stop by the Hall of Champions or stroll along the Memorial Walk of Champions to find out more about past competition winners.
Fitch's Corner
Fitch's Corner is a private horse boarding and sales facility in the lovely Millbrook, New York. It's home to a lively horse riding community that hosts regular events such as the renowned Fitch's Market gathering retailers and exhibitors from the local area and further afield for a weekend of shopping and socialising that culminates with the Sip, Shop and Nibble event on Saturday evening.
To further enhance the community spirit, each year an individual, couple or organisation receives the Fitch's Corner Award in recognition of their leadership and support within the wider Millbrook community.
Other special occasions in the club's social calendar include the Blue Jean Ball, and Collector Car Parade. In 2012, Fitch's Corner will once again host the USEA Area 1 Regional Championships.
Equestrian Essentials
Before touring the USA's horse riding facilities and attractions, you need to get your hands on a few equestrian essentials to help you look and feel the part. The best equestrian clothing and footwear combines functionality and fashion.
Kit yourself and your travel companions out in a pair of quality riding boots, and jodhpurs. Velvet riding hats are a classy addition.
Remember to stock up on carrots to treat all the horses you'll meet along the way. But consult their owners first to see if it's OK to supplement their diet. While sugar cubes used to be a popular treat, the trend has begun to decline as people have realised that sugar can do more harm than good to the animals.
